Honors Admission & Retention

Participation in the University Honors College is voluntary. Entering freshmen, current Quincy students in their first year of study, and transfer students are eligible for the Honors College.

Entering Freshmen

Students entering the university may be invited to join the Honors College. The Honors Dean will give priority to entering freshmen who have a composite ACT of 26 or SAT score of 1230 and a high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.4.

Current Quincy Students

The Honors Dean may also invite qualified first-year university students to join the College.

Transfer Students

Transfer students may petition to join the program on the same terms as a second-semester Quincy student. A student must complete at least 60 hours at Quincy in order to receive Quincy honors at graduation.

Annual Review

Every spring, the Honors Dean will evaluate each student’s progress in the Honors College. Honors students must maintain a 3.4 cumulative GPA to remain in the Honors College. Honors students are expected to demonstrate reasonable progress towards meeting Honors College requirements or be asked to leave the College. The Honors Dean will contact students who drop below these criteria and inform them that they have one semester to meet the College’s standards. The Dean will notify students who do not meet Honors expectations that they must withdraw from the Honors College.

Aesthetic and Other Experiences

Students in the President’s Honors College are expected to exemplify a balance of academic excellence, moral integrity, cultural and aesthetic development, and leadership skills. To this end, each Honors student will participate in applicable activities throughout the academic year and submit a summary of 700 to 1000 words to the Dean at the end of the year explaining their development in these areas.

” I really value the honors program because it allows students to challenge their academic capabilities, as well as provides a community of eager learners.”
